Top 17 uses of Argan oil

Please do not forget to like Natural Oils N Herbs on facebook to stay updated everytime we find a fantastic post to do more with herbs

Argan oil is one of the rarest and the most expensive of oils. It grows only in South West Morocco. Argan oil is produced from an Argan nut coming from Argan tree. The reason of it being costly is that it requires a lot of manual labor to produce oil from a nut and three whole days for a lady to produce one whole litre of argan oil.
Beauty products touted to contain this liquid gold have more of silicone than Argan oil.
It’s a one stop shop for all your skin’s beauty needs and I will tell you how you can use it.
Below are 17 ways to use organic argan oil in your daily life:
1.Great for softening the heels – Forget the anti crack creams that you see advertised daily. I know it’s one of the biggest problems for women and Argan oil with its natural healing and softening properties gently enters the skin and repairs it. Massage with a few drops and you are good to go.
2.Encourage nail growth and softens the cuticles- Massaging with a few drops of argan oil boosts nail growth.
3. Removes stretch marks – Argan oil minimizes the stretch marks on your belly.
4. Bath and body lotion- A little amount of argan oil can be added into the bath or body lotion and it will make the bath more nourishing for your skin.
5. For your face – There’s a myth created by the beauty industry that oil is bad for your facial skin. Conditions like acne are the result of playful hormones and an excess production of sebum coupled with bacteria. Argan oil is a dry oil that goes well with your skin, moisturizing and smoothening it. It is not a greasy oil. Massage it directly to your skin for a great glow.
6. Make a Face mask- In one of my posts I shared about making a natural face mask from green tea powder or matcha. It’s very simple. All you need to do is mix little water or aloe vera gel into matcha and attain a consistent mixture. You can then add a few drops of argan oil to make it a rejuvenating mask. Or else you can add argan oil to a pumpkin face mask. You can also take some yoghurt( preferably goat milk), lemon juice and then mix it all with some argan oil. Anything works. Rinse off with warm water or aloe vera juice.
7. Hydrating Toner – Adding a few drops of argan oil to orange or rose water toner makes it a facial toner to hydrate and tone simultaneously.
8. Exfoliating Lip Scrub – Slice a lemon into two and apply argan oil on the open end of one. Gently rub onto your lips for exfoliating it. Rinse off later
9.Lip moisturizer- The basic idea here is get something grainy to remove the dead cells on your lips. To moisturize your lips, add a few drops of argan oil, one tablespoon of vanilla extract and add both to brown sugar and rub onto your lips, then rinse off.
10. Leave-on Conditioner – It’s a great after shower conditioner, when your hair is still wet apply few drops of argan oil which hydrates your hair and leaves it silky.
11. Hair Styling Shine – Argan oil imparts a rich shine to your hair. No matter your hair type: dry, brittle, unmanageable, frizzy, thin, thick, coarse, straight, wavy, curly, or coily, Argan oil will add shine, tame frizz, help straighten your hair, or enhance your natural curls.
It does not go away for a long time.
12. Overnight Hair Treatment – A generous amount of Argan oil when massaged onto the scalp and left overnight will make it softer and provide a rich soft texture. Massage a generous amount of argan oil into your hair, ends and scalp. Wrap your hair and leave it on while you sleep.
13.Argan oil as a Hot-Oil-Treatment- Massage a healthy amount and cover the hair with a towel.Sit in Sauna or under a hooded dryer for 15-30 minutes
14.Argan oil as a Hair-Growth-Treatment – Being rich in Vitamin F it repairs the skin cells. Spray argan oil on your finger tips and gently exfoliate your scalp for 15 minutes.
15. For dry itchy scalp- Argan oil removes the dead sebum and opens the pores and removes the itchy tendency

16. Good for health- Argan oil is also edible. Argan oil is highly beneficial for those with arthritic or rheumatic conditions and helps to strengthen the circulatory and immune systems. For these reasons, argan oil can be helpful in relieving general aches and pains as well as sore or stiff muscles.
17. Good for hands- Be it for removing the pain or for make it look good its good for the hands

25 + natural ways to get rid of ants

Please do not forget to like Natural Oils N Herbs on facebook to stay updated everytime we find a fantastic post to do more with herbs

1.Barricade your house against ants, seal, seal seal

Ants often enter your house through cracks and holes in the walls. Try to seal off those areas with putty, glue or plaster. Do not use any temporary seal like petroleum jelly. After trying for an hour or so I finally gave up because there were way too many cracks in my own room where the floor meets the sidewall.

2.Trace them and then…

It is natural step after the first one, trace the location of ants by following them. Since they always live in colonies you will find an ant hill. There are two or three things that we can do to an ant hill. As I am writing this there’s an ant exodus going on. Earlier today I had cleaned the garage and up rooted an ant colony, so the inmates are moving out. I am trying many of the methods to see which one works effectively.
  • Ants always have a queen mother. If you spread grits around the ant hill the worker ants will carry it to the queen and once she is done eating and drinking she will bloat to death. The leaderless ant colony will disintegrate themselves.
  • The second thing that you can do is cover the ant hill with baking soda and then pour vinegar or fruit juice on it. These react together and release carbon dioxide which will cut off the oxygen supply, again killing the Queen.
  • Nicotine water or hot boiling water can be directly poured on the ant hill.
  • Spread orange peels, lemon peels or cucumber peels around the hill. These peels are not good for the fungus that these ants grow for food and they will declare peace.
  • If you fill in a spray bottle with one teaspoon of dishwashing soap and water then you get a handy ant killer. I do not know why only soap works and not the detergent. So fill it and spray. To make it more powerful you can use a drop or two of tea tree oil.

3.Drawing barriers

I already mentioned that I am seeing an ant exodus. I tried a few things to see if any worked. For example I put talc on their entry points and their speed of movement was considerably reduced. A few minutes later they were back full on for they had found three new cracks.
Anyway you can put barriers on their entry points into your kitchen. A barrier is un broken line. The ants will not cross it. Here are a few things that you can try.
  • Powdered charcoal
  • Turmeric
  • Citrus oil
  • Black or cayenne pepper, the ants just go round it or above it,so I used powdered pepper and they never even came close
  • Chalk lines, you can use normal chalk
  • Vaseline
  • Talc as mentioned above

4.Use essential oils

Ants, mice, spiders etc hate strong odours which we usually like. Peppermint oil, tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, citrus oils are taboo for them. If you can dilute a few drops of peppermint oil into water and spray them on areas where ants frequently appear then you have got a solution to your ant problem.

About 10 drops of cinnamon essential oil and water into a small squirt bottle will stop them if sprayed at the right places.
Even cinnamon works great, they hate it. Various plants like mint, lemon grass etc. are ant repellents. You can crush mint leaves and leave them on entry points of ants. Bay leaves do the same magic. Lavender oil, a piece of clove or a clove of garlic too helps.Frontier Ground Cinnamon Certified Organic (3% Oil), 16 Ounce Bags (Pack of 2) Heinz Distilled White Vinegar 16 oz

Camphor is another agent with such a strong smell that ants do not come near.
If you frequently find ants in sugar jars then keep a dried bay leaf inside. The strong smell drives them nuts( Bay leaves are great for cooking chicken)

5. Borax ant bait

As a kid I was always fascinated by ants and spent long hours watching Discovery Channel where there would be shows showing the inside structure of ant colonies. They are tremendously hard working creatures who are very clever. They cultivate their own farms of fungi and have an intricate network of worker ants who work day and night.
I always wanted to set up an ant colony in a glass box to see them live but never got close to building one. But I don’t like their excessive curiosity in my kitchen and on every crystal of sugar. The reason I am suggesting ant baits is because all the above methods which involve killing the Queen ant may not work 100% because in some cases these guys have alternative Queens who are not born yet. They keep those royal eggs for emergencies and when the Queen is dead hatch one of them.
Total extermination is the only way. But if you don’t want that then do not try the borax bait.
For people who do not want to use chemical ant baits may be due to the presence of toddlers who find everything interesting or because of pets can try the borax ant bait. Even though Borax sounds chemical it’s 100% natural and derived from boric acid that occurs naturally.
Borax does not harm us. In fact if you have ever played caroms then you might have come across a crystalline powder used for smoothening the board. Borax is as harmful to you as table salt but for ants it sounds a death knell. It destroys their intestines and their skeleton and they die.
There are many ways in which you can use the borax bait.
First off you can create a sugar syrup and and line the edges with borax. Ants who would be attracted to the syrup will cross the borax line and when they feed they will also ingest borax and that will kill them.
You can also
  • Buy boric acid
  • Pour about a tablespoon of real maple syrup on a saucer.
  • Sprinkle the boric acid around the syrup so that the ants must walk through it to get to the syrup
  • Place wherever the ants are frequenting.
  • It may take weeks
You can also mix sugar, borax and water and soak cotton balls with the mixture and place on points where ants frequent.
Jam plus borax is something that ants can never avoid.

6. Use cornmeal against ants

This works because of the way the digestive system of ants work. They are not able to digest corn meal and grits. Wheat flour and dried rice (any kind) also work. If you sprinkle them around the places they frequent then they will eat it and once it reaches their stomach it will expand breaking their intestine and they will die.

7. Use Farina

Put out cream of wheat (farina). Even this works in much a similar way. When they eat it they die.

8. Use coffee grounds

Ants are susceptible to the coffee grounds- the strain remaining at the end once we drink our coffee. Almost anything that smells strongly irritates their stomach. Leave it in you garden or kitchen and the ants will eat it and die. You have to never give up with this method as it may take weeks to show the results
9.Sprinkle Splenda where you see ants. and they are done
10.Spray ants with vinegar water. If you have a flooring of marble like mine then you should not probably try this because a stain is left. You can mix water and white vinegar in a 50:50 ratio and spray on ants. Ants release some pheromones and an acid on their trail and that is why they are able to follow one another. Vinegar destroys that connection, the low Ph also kills many

11. Use Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth
Ants won’t enter an area with Diatomaceous earth because it has microscopic edges that harm them.
12.Use a sticky tape to capture ants
13. Now that you are tired with sticky tape squash them with hands and then wash them off.

14.Sprinkle salt on flat surfaces
15.Squirt lemon juice, any citrus juice along sides
16.Spread pureed orange peels around the foundation of your home. Again, ants aren’t fond of the smell of citrus. You can also use cucumber skin.
17.Alcohol
In a spray bottle, add 1 part rubbing alcohol or tequila to 1 part water. Spray at entrance points or trails. Reapply for a few days.
18.Smear petroleum jelly along edges. You must agree with me that you hate the sight of ants on pet bowls. Now you won’t complain.

33+ DIY tips to get rid of ants, mosquitoes, spiders, fleas and much more

Now personally I have nothing against spiders, they just scuttle around the house and if there are only one or two I’d rather enjoy their art and effort which they take in spinning their webs. What gets on my nerves are the mother spiders for they generate thousands of their progeny.

How to deal with spiders?

A bit of kerosene goes a long way
Wash windows inside and out with a combo of ammonia & water. What it does is it clears all the droppings and dirt, making it less attractive for spiders, flies and mosquitoes. Now dip an old cloth into kerosene and rub the window sills. The kerosene leaves a smell that isn’t too favourable with spiders and it also keeps flies at bay.

Get Rid of Spiders With Lady Bugs

I had once read that a lady bug is a farmer’s friend. Even though these are bugs and I can’t say for sure whether( or how) all of them are ladies they finish off everything else. They eat spiders, flies, worms and lot of other pesky troubles.

A chemical free way

A natural way to chase away spiders is to place Hedge Apples or pieces of Hedge Apples wherever you see spiders. Spiders hate these things. You can not find the Hedge Apples until June and that is the time when these are causing arachnophobia!

A smarter way to use hedge apples is somewhere down.

Use lemon pledge

Since spiders taste with their legs( now I know why they have so many legs) and because they hate lemon pledge dusting window sills and door frames and all other nooks and crannies with lemon pledge will ward them off.

Some DIY recipes to naturally kill spiders and fleas

Natural pest repellent spray- Take one cup of vinegar( apple cider is the best), one cup of pepper, a teaspoon of oil and liquid soap. Mix them all together and spray along the outside of your outside door and along windows. Do it again after rains.

Many of the recipes below require and I would highly suggest buying some since it’s the best thing for getting rid of many pests.

Spiders hate peppermint oil. Mosquitoes peppermint oil. Mice hate peppermint oil and even fleas hate peppermint oil.

1.Purchase in its pure, concentrated form and apply it in your shelves and inside pockets, and on areas where perspiration may attract mosquitoes and fleas, such as under your arms or around your collar. ( caution: Test a few drops of peppermint oil on a hidden part of your clothing to ensure that it will not stain the fabric.)

2.Dilute 1 part peppermint oil with 10 parts rubbing alcohol and place the solution in a plastic spray bottle. This dilution will make it easy for you to use peppermint oil amply on pets, clothing, shelves, doors and sills. You can also test it on your skin but again see that it does not irritate you.

3. There are other oils like rosemary oil, lemongrass oil and lemon eucalyptus oil that naturally repel insects. Mix peppermint oil with them and you will get protection against a hell lot of pests and the protection lasts longer in the case of spiders.

Some DIY recipes to ward off mosquitoes

I hate hate hate mosquitoes, they are blood sucking nefarious creatures that serve no purpose

1. To keep mosquitoes from biting rub vicks on 4 or 5 spots - a little dab on the feet, legs, arms and neck. I thought that the mosquitoes excused me during cold and fever. Now I know that it was vicks that did the magic.

2. DIY recipe for mosquito spray
**
Get some peppermint oil, tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil. Place the peppermint, tea tree and eucalyptus oils into the spray bottle with the eye dropper. Fasten the lid and shake the oils well to blend them.

**Remove the lid and add the water to the blended essential oils. Replace the spray lid and shake the water and oil mixture well to mix the ingredients.

**Spray the peppermint repellent on the skin and clothing when going outside where mosquitoes might be present. Do not spray it directly onto the face; instead, spray onto fingers and spread over the face, avoiding the eye area since it can easily irritate they eyes.
Bonus: Make a rub-on oil version of the repellent by mixing the essential oil blend with four ounces of jojoba or almond oil in a small plastic or glass container. Shake the mixture well to blend the oils. Apply the oil repellent to the skin by hand and rub it in completely.

3. DIY recipe for mosquito spray
INGREDIENTS
12 oz bottle witch hazel (mine was lavender infused and had no alcohol or parabens)
15 drops citronella essential oil (I use a bit more)
15 drops lemon grass oil (I use a bit more)
10 drops peppermint essential oil
10 drops tee tree oil (optional)
A funnel
An empty spray container
An empty mixing jar to mix the contents in

DIRECTIONS:
Pour witch hazel in the mixing jar and add the essential oils. Shake well and place in your spray bottles using a funnel, is the best way.
Before each use just shake up a bit. Make sure you don't get any in your eyes and when using for your kids just place a little bit over a small area to make sure they are not allergic to any of the essential oils.
 DIY recipes above from http://www.ehow.com/how_5096768_use-oil-natural-mosquito-repellent.html

4. DIY recipe for mosquito spray
You might have noticed that if you go and sit in an empty spot previously un occupied by mosquitoes then mosquitoes do start coming and biting you after sometime.
The science behind a mosquito tracing you is because we emit carbon dioxide when we breathe out. They can smell that.
Just imagine if we can fool mosquitoes into believing that carbon dioxide is coming from somewhere and they get trapped thinking that they are going for a live human.
We will use yeast for that since yeast emits carbon dioxide in large amounts when growing.

An alternative to using yeast is mixing baking soda with any fruit juice, say orange juice. They react together to release carbon dioxide but it does not last long.

Supplies:

  • 1 2 litre soda bottle
  • a sharp knife
  • black paper
  • tape
  • candy thermometer
Take a 2 litre soda bottle. Cut off the top right below where it starts to narrow for the top, invert and place inside the lower half.
Make a simple sugar syrup.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups cool water
  • 1 tsp. active dry yeast

Directions:

Bring 1 cup of the water to a boil.
Dissolve the sugar into the boiling water.
Once the sugar is dissolved completely, remove the pan from the heat. Stir in 2 cups cool water, stir well.
Check the temperature of the syrup to make sure it is no hotter than 90 degrees F, if hotter, let cool to 90 degrees F, add 1 tsp. active dry yeast, no need to mix. Put syrup in the bottom part of the bottle, using the cut off neck piece, leave in place.
Be sure to seal the two parts of the bottle with the tape. The fermenting yeast will release carbon dioxide. Put black paper around the bottle since mosquitoes like dark places and carbon dioxide. This mosquito trap will then start working.
TIPS: Put the trap in a dark and humid place for 2 weeks, you'll see the effect. You'll have to replace the sugar water + yeast solution every 2 weeks.
Try and let me know whether it worked for you?

Some quick remedies
1.Have you ever noticed that during even times, I think the times at dusk there will be swarms of mosquitoes on the veranda trying to enter your house? There will be mosquitoes on the patio and there’s one remedy that can make them back track their path.
Garlic!

They hate the smell of garlic and if you put some chopped up garlic on the patio or near the plants over which they hover then you will seen them disappearing into oblivion.
http://holisticurve.tumblr.com/page/6

2. Earlier I had said that I will be giving away some smart ways to use hedge apples. Now place hedge apples under beds and in pantry to repel spiders and insects. Scientific studies have found that extracts of hedge apple repel several insects and they are as effective as the insecticide DEET.

3. Not a natural remedy in its fullest sense but works quite well. Use a 4-ounce spray bottle and load it up with the popular mouth wash . Mosquitoes hate listerine. You will not find a trace of them once the spraying is done.

Herbal remedies for an ant exodus

Ants are some of the least harmful creatures. They do not spread diseases, they do not bother to bite around much, indeed they are always busy and that's why I hate them. They are so active that they will bring their whole batallion down to fetch a sugar crystal or keep sniffing till the last drop of spilled milk is cleared.

Here are some tips to get rid of them DIY TIP 1
The number one herbal/natural thing that you can do to get rid of ants is to use Borax. By the sound of it it seems to be a chemical compound but it occurs in nature as such and is not chemically manufactured.
Ingredients:
Warm water
Sugar
Borax
Cotton balls

*Mix 1 cup of warm water with 1/2 cup of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of Borax.
Then soak the Borax mixture up with cotton balls and place those cotton balls near any trails the ants have established in your home.
They will feed on the borax mixture and for a while it would like you have done a big mistake but then you will thank me tomorrow for they will all be gone at one go.
Or else
Mix two tablespoons of borax with jam, jelly, honey or syrup until there is a paste. Smear some on some paper or a plate and put it where the ants are at. They should flock to it and eat it and take it back to the nest and it will act as a natural ant killer.
Adapted from http://naturalantkiller.net
DIY TIP 2

Here’s one smart way to get rid of fire ants. We will be making use of the fact that fire ants live in colonies with a queen.
It’s perfect for the summers when there are occasional rains.
Wait for a few days until you feel like it is going to rain.
Then… sprinkle instant grits on the fire ant hill. The workers will carry the grits to the queen who will eat the grits and when it rains, she’ll drink.
The grits will expand in her stomach and she’ll “bloat” to death. Once she’s out of the way, the leaderless ants will die off. (Adapted from the Tightwad Gazette II book.)
You can use the same tip on a larger scale but with corn meal
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so to see the effect but it sure works.

Adapted from
http://mealsandmovesblog.com/2011/05/13/fun-facts-friday/

DIY TIP 3
You would need boric acid and sugar.
Mix the sugar and Boric Acid well. There is no specific formula as to how you should do it. Any ratio works. Put it in a jar.

Now put cotton atop the lid, fill it, and then saturate the cotton to the top.

Place where you want it; make several if you need it.

Will keep for a long while.

It sometimes takes a little while for them to find it, but find it they will.

When they do, let them alone; you will want to kill them because they look so creepy; but don't because they will hang over the edge of the lid and drink, drink, drink, and then take it back to the nest.

Almost over night, the ants would disappear.

DIY TIP 4
When a string of ants invade your home you can use lemon juice on the path they usually travel or use baking soda.
And a ring of coffee grounds around sensitive plants can discourage ants.

Ants hate vinegar, spray it around doorways and other areas they frequent to repel the poor tiny workers.

Other things that you can do

Natural flea repellent – Add ½ cup chopped rosemary to 4 cups of boiling water. Let cool, strain out rosemary, and add to a spray bottle to spray on your pet’s furry coat.
Natural tick deterrent for human usage - 1 part tea tree oil to 2 parts water in a spray bottle. Spray it on shoes, socks or pant cuffs. This is good to know! tick

Peppermint oil
Use peppermint oil as an insect repellent by breaking open a few Vitamin E capsules and mixing the oil with peppermint oil. A Vitamin E and peppermint oil mixture will keep your skin smooth and soft, and will act as an effective and natural insect repellent as well. You may need to re-apply the solution once every 1 to 2 hours, however, for best results.

Cloves
Cloves smell better than moth balls and are a natural deterrent against winged pests. You can also create a water trap by filling a small basin with water and leaving a night light suspended over it. Moths will be attracted to the light and will end up crashing and burning and falling into the water. Add a little dish soap to break the surface tension of the water.

Catching fleas with detergent water
Placing a small pan of water with a few drops of dish detergent under a nightlight at night to drown fleas, you can also use the container if you pick a flea off yourself, just flick them in the solution.

Scrubbing your kitchen counter tops and floors with white distilled vinegar to chase ants.

Catnip for cockroaches
Cockroaches hate catnip, make a catnip tea and fill a spray bottle, spray where you see cockroaches or their droppings.
When I was a kid mother would buy a white chalk for killing cockroaches. The night time would be great fun coz we would be drawing lines all over the house anywhere where the cockroach had a chance of passing.
Morning we would find a slain army of roaches.
A natural way to do this is by mixing sugar and baking soda in an equal ratio.
Just spread around the area where you see roaches and soon you won’t see them anymore.
Otherwise use a mixture of Boric Acid, with baking soda which is naturally occurring.

Grind rosemary leaves into a fine dust and sprinkle it onto your pet or its bedding to ward off fleas.

Neem oil is one of the most bitter oils on earth. Made from neem seeds they prevent fungus growth, kill insects, mites and you can even use the branch of a neem tree to brush your teeth.

Neem oil is usually sold in a concentrated form, to which you add water.
Fruit flies like wine, fill up a saucer of some cheap white wine and add a little detergent to it. Leave it around for the flies to sip and die on.
A natural fly catcher related to wine is to put something sickly sweet like mango peels in the bottom of narrow-necked wine bottles. The flies can fly in, but can’t fly out.
I have shown how to make one here on this blog.
For mosquito burning citronella candles will help.
Vinegar is a great herbicide. Fill a spray bottle with vinegar – white is best since it won’t stain and since all vinegars are diluted buy the one with highest concentration to see some action.Bounce Bugs
Bounce sheets can be used to repel spiders as well but not in the way you think.
A sheet of "Bounce" is not just for the dryer. All types of bugs, roaches and spiders meet their maker after coming in contact with a single sheet of bounce.
So, lay a few sheets anywhere around the house, near doors, vents, openings etc.

500 LEMON BALM SEEDS Melissa officinialis Attracts BEES&BUTTERFLIES citronellal

Lemon mint can be used to repel mosquitoes. It has a balmy smell that you will love and mosquitoes hate.

Thai Lemon Grass
Lemon Grass Plant - Must Have Herb! - Cymbopogon - 4
Thai lemon grass is not a particularly beautiful plant, but it is very effective as a natural mosquito repellent. An aromatic grass that gives off a lovely, lemony smell when rubbed or cut, it is extremely easy to grow in a landscape or on your patio. It t is tolerates full sun or partial shade, and likes plenty of water. Before enjoying an evening on the patio, snip a few of the leaves to release the odour that is pleasant to humans, but repellent to mosquitoes.
Lemon grass has many uses. It is often used as an ingredient in Thai food recipes. Homemade natural skincare, candles and perfumes sometimes contain lemon grass. On our farm, we simmer 1 part water with 1 part sugar and a few macerated pieces of lemon grass to make a simple syrup for sweetening lemonade or other beverages.

Marigolds

Marigold flowers give off a fragrance that is unappealing to many insects, especially to certain types of beetles, leaf cutters, the dreaded tomato horn worm, and some detrimental nematodes. Plant them near tender vegetables or place them in a pot on your picnic table. In addition to growing the flowers in strategic areas around your yard, you can also whirl the flowers with some water in your blender, strain and use as a pest deterrent spray.
Marigolds are easily grown from seed or transplants. Plant them in full sun. With very little care, marigolds bloom prolifically during the late spring and summer. To encourage continual blooming, deadhead the plants by removing flowers as they die. Marigolds come in many shades, including creamy yellow, right bright yellow, orange, gold, burgundy, and combinations of two colors.

Nasturtium

Nasturtiums are effective for repelling white flies, squash bugs, beetles and aphids. They prefer lots of sun and soil that is allowed to dry out between watering. These hardy plants will often grow in places that other plants will not tolerate, and bloom best when grown in average to poor soil conditions. Grow nasturtiums near tender vegetables or in a pot on your picnic table or patio. The seeds can be harvested and soaked in water for use as an insect repellent spray.
Nasturtium flowers have a peppery flavor that is delicious in salads. In addition, nasturtiums are used medicinally as a sore throat remedy as the leaves are a natural antibiotic that is high in vitamin C.

Lemon Grass Plant - Must Have Herb! - Cymbopogon - 4" Pot

Besides being a gorgeous bug repellent, marigold flowers are edible in salads and the dried leaves make a delicious tea.

Why chemical beauty products are harmful for you and alternatives?

Please do not forget to like Natural Oils N Herbs on facebook to stay updated every time we find a fantastic post to do more with herbs

Being a student of chemistry I know what goes into each of our daily beauty products and they have their own harms.

SLS may be carcinogenic, so avoid it:
We all like a nice bath but be careful. Don’t you all love the white foam the mass of lather that surrounds you but beware because what causes the lather is called sodium lauryl sulfate. It washes down to rivers and oceans and gets into the endocrine of aquatic life. Over weeks and months they accumulate and finally they end up in our stomachs through the food chain.
There was a case when the birds which ate those fish could not get any progeny because their egg shells were thinned. They also don not bio degrade soon. Using SLS repeatedly is said to have carcinogenic effects.
Instead you can use soaps without SLS.

Nail polish only looks good:
Lacquered nails only look good. In my case they induce a mild headache but there are also other ill effects. Stay away from polishes that employ formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate and toluene. They cause dermatitis, disrupt hormones (and cause head aches to me.) Some alternatives to colour your nails are trying the Indian Mehndi.

Avoid products that have fragrance:
When it comes to fragrant products they have fixatives which use phthalates. Phthalates used in some fragrances and have been linked to breast and liver cancers and the disruption of male and female reproductive systems.

Reduce your dependence:
We have been suggesting various alternatives to the chemical products that we all use everyday. From cleaners to moisturizers there are herbal products that can save the day. SO choose wisely!

What can you do to look better?

Some tips and tricks and herbal choices if used can make you look better and also not harm your skin.

There needs to be made some sacrifices to make a healthy living and it should start from reducing your dependence on chemicals first.

I use coconut oil for softening my lips and the knuckles of my foot. They work just as the chemicals that you get but are not harmful in any way.

Limit the usage of soap and shampoo on your hair. What soap does is that it sucks all the natural oil in your body and shampoos have SLS.

We have multiple recipes to make your own soap, cleansers, moisturizers and even bathing salts. SO make your own.

Eat lots of citrus fruits: Citrus fruits give the body the ability to manufacture collagen which supports our skin. More collagen means healthier looking skins. They will work wonders.

Apple cider Vinegar: They help break down the fat deposits that accumulate under the skin and also remove the layer of dead skin. Add it in your salad.

Green tea is a bag of health benefits. It will help reduce the risk of skin cancer and has lots of other goodies like a direct impact on weight loss and improved digestion.
